Hundreds help clean up Fujairah
Fujairah: Scores of volunteers from all over the UAE came down to the East Coast to help clean up beaches and corniche areas hit by last week's storm.
Volunteers from the group Takatof - part of the Emirates Foundation - worked to clear up rubbish on beaches, with many local residents taking part in the two-day programme.
Leading the clean-up effort was Minister of Education Dr Hanif Hassan who joined hundreds of teachers and students who gave up some of their time to lend a hand.
Starting his visit in Kalba, before moving on to Fuj-airah and Khor Fakkan, the minister stressed the importance of taking the lead in the recovery process and praised volunteers.
FNC members tour areas affected by Gonu
A delegation from the Federal National Council yesterday toured the areas affected by Cyclone Gonu, which hit the UAE's East Coast last week.
The delegation visited the victims in the Suhaila low cost housing area to have first hand information about their condition and the extent of damage caused by the cyclone.
They also saw the damage caused to the streets of Kalba, particularly on the Corniche and the Kalba Garden.
