Abu Dhabi:  The Municipality of Abu Dhabi City drew the curtain on the 30th Forestation Week which was held this year under the theme "Let's Plant the UAE". The event, which started last Monday at the Formal Park of Abu Dhabi Corniche, was intended to raise the level of environmental awareness, highlight the importance of agriculture in our lives, and conserve and promote the agricultural wealth.

The concluding events were attended by male and female pupils of a number of schools who drew fascinating portraits depicting their love of agriculture and the environment.

Female pupils expressed their pleasure with the Forestation Week and acquainted themselves closely with the efforts made towards expanding plantation across the nation.

They expressed their hope for such events to continue regularly so that the pupils can take active part in them and acquaint themselves with the procedure of dealing and maintaining plantation at homes.

During the week's events, thousands of saplings were distributed to the public and pupils with the aim of encouraging them to grow plants, care for the environment and expand greenery.

The events included several activities which reflected the growing attention paid to public parks, agricultural development, and the educational activities aimed at raising the awareness level of the importance to maintaining trees, agricultural wealth, parks, gardens, recreational areas and tourist facilities.

Several bodies took part in the exhibition accompanying the event such as Agriculture Sector, Zayed Agricultural Centre for Development and Rehabilitation, Abu Dhabi Police, and 18 specialised companies in the field of agriculture.

The expo witnessed effective participation from the public and pupils, and there was ample opportunity for acquainting the public with the activities and objectives of Zayed Agricultural Centre for Development and Rehabilitation.

The visitors were provided with booklets and images of the impaired cultivating land and harvesting their produce along with specimen of the produce of the Centre such as vegetables and honey.

The agriculture sector stand captured the attention of the public who dropped in to see the achievements of the agricultural drive, and efforts made to expand greenery.

Specialists explained to the visitors the agricultural techniques adopted in Abu Dhabi, efforts made to promote the agricultural environment and how to maintain the environment clean, healthy, safe and free from pollution.

Attendants of Abu Dhabi Police stand at the expo also briefed the public and pupils on the community police; which is a new addition to the policing work based on a new philosophy in handling the needs and problems of the local community, involving participation from citizens and residents with the police in confronting and combating crime.

They stressed that the role of community police was to enhance the confidence between the community and the police, improve the policing services, promote the spirit of participation and responsibility, diffuse security culture and awareness across the community and foster a safe environment at residential districts.

The events met great success which was reflected in children's free drawing corner, where the municipality provided all inputs for the pupils to practice their activities in articulating the achievements of the agricultural development and its importance to our life.

Pupils were given agricultural brochures and booklets and the drawing studio proved extremely popular among visiting students throughout the days of Forestation Week.
