Abu Dhabi: Flight services at Abu Dhabi airport could be disrupted on Thursday night and Friday morning due to foggy weather, said Tom Clarke, Etihad Airways spokesman, on Thursday.

Fog continued to envelop most parts of the country on Thursday morning, especially northern and western coastal areas.

Dense fog disrupted flight services at Abu Dhabi International Airport from Wednesday 8:36pm till 10:46am on Thursday, Andrew Chupeau, a spokesman of Abu Dhabi Airport Company, told Gulf News. "About 18 flights were affected – six were cancelled and 12 others were diverted - as the visibility dropped to 100 meters."

The airport has the capacity to operate flights even if the visibility drops to 125 meters, he added. Normal operations resumed by 10:46am, said Chupeau.

Fog has cleared and it is partly cloudy in general, said a National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) spokesperson in Abu Dhabi. "Pleasant weather is expected during the day."

It will be relatively cold during the night, especially over the internal and mountainous areas, the spokesperson said, adding that light to moderate winds are expected but the conditions at the sea will be normal.

"A foggy morning is expected on Friday too." Relative humidity will increase during the night and Friday morning, especially over the interior and northern areas, said the spokesperson.
