Civic body to privatise pest control unit

Al Ain: The municipality will soon privatise its pest control section under an outsourcing policy to involve private sector in its various services.

The civic body currently operates the section that offers free pest control service to the public.

Mubarak Saif Rashed Al Shamsi, General Manager of the Public Health Department at the municipality, said several companies have shown interest in the section. "We are currently reviewing the offers for four different projects, including the pest control." The other projects include sorting stations, landfills, clinical waste and incineration, he said.

Al Shamsi said the department has already awarded a Dh432-million contract for sweeping and cleaning. The contract has been given for seven years to a UAE firm that has a joint venture with an Italian firm.
