Builders told to keep work sites clean

Construction companies have been told to clean up their act by local government inspectors who are tired of seeing dirty neighbourhoods.

Stiff penalties will be levelled against any companies that do not adhere to a list of minimum standards.

Sidewalks and buildings are covered in dust from the concrete work, while debris is left by contractors.

A senior municipal official said letters have been sent to builders, but no penalties have been mentioned.

Instead, individual cases will be assessed and the penalty will be issued according to the severity of the offence.
