Automated solid waste treatment plant goes on-stream
Dubai: The first phase of Tadweer, the solid waste sorting and recycling facility, has begun its operation in Warsan.
The Dh500 million facility will treat 4,000 tonnes of municipal solid waste per day.
Tadweer is a private sector venture in cooperation with the Dubai Municipality.
The region's first fully automated facility was officially inaugurated last week by Hussain Lootah, Acting Director-General of Dubai Municipality.
Two other phases of the project will be operational by the year-end and will address the needs of other areas of Dubai.
Lootah said the Warsan sorting line is targeting proper and safe treatment of general waste and its recycling, seeking its benefits in other fields.
"The implementation of this project marks the policy of Dubai towards environment's protection and pollution prevention," he said.
He said the project was an example of effective collaboration between the private and public sector.
Talks on
Hamdan Al Shair, Director of Environment Department in Dubai Municipality, said negotiations were on for increasing the amount of waste treated by Tadweer.
"In view of the strategic partnership existing between Dubai Municipality and Tadweer, Dubai Municipality is confining the expansion of current activities undertaken by existing companies as per current status quo, through not granting the release of new licences in this field," he said.
Second phase of building permit service soon
Dubai Municipality is gearing up for the launch of the second phase of its Building Permit Certification Service, which will be one of the biggest eGovernment implementations undertaken by the municipality.
The completion of this phase will ensure 100 per cent online transactions between the municipality and building contractors.
The system will offer a host of electronic services to clients and will process large amounts of data related to building permits and construction activities in Dubai.
Information on all major construction projects being undertaken in Dubai will be available. It will also provide detailed descriptions on existing and upcoming buildings.
The introduction of the service will reduce traffic congestion around the municipality office, cut the work load on staff by eliminating manual processing of documents and provide all services pertaining to building permits.
