Abu Dhabi Police urge people to keep off beaches due to bad weather
Dubai/Abu Dhabi: Strong gusty winds are expected to whip up waves of up to six feet offshore and the Dubai Met Office has issued a marine warning valid till Wednesday morning.
Winds of 50 km/h are expected, said the duty forecaster.
Abu Dhabi Police also issued a warning on Tuesday, asking beachgoers to refrain from hitting the beaches, owing to bad weather conditions.
Officials also asked motorists to be cautious while on the road as the visibility has been reduced drastically.
Colonel Othman Al Tamimi, Director of Emergency Management and Public Safety at Abu Dhabi Police, said beachgoers and motorists must be cautious of the vagaries of the weather.
"Rain as well as the high wind speed could lead to rough conditions and related accidents if people are not vigilant. But such accidents can be mostly avoided with extra care and by abiding by the rules and regulations," he said.
Al Tamimi said the police, on their part, have increased patrols to ensure safety.
"It is better to avoid the beach until the turbulence subsides," he said. He also advised children to remain indoor, as much as possible, as there is an increased chance of falling ill from diseases such as conjunctivitis, chest infections and other viral diseases.
Poor visibility, dust storms, uprooting of trees etc are some of the dangers that could potentially harm drivers and pedestrians, he said.
However, no rain or thundershowers are expected.
