Khor Fakkan: Five young Indian expatriate students were saved from drowning in raging waters that washed away their 4x4 vehicle on Thursday.
The rescue efforts were led by an Emirati man and his workers, who saw the students in a perilous situation during heavy rains that drenched the north-eastern Emirates.
A 19-year-old student, however, remains missing and rescue efforts are still on following flashfloods in Khor Fakkan.
Khalifa Ali Bin Saeed Al Naqbi, who led the rescue efforts, told Gulf News about the incident: “On Thursday around 4.30pm, heavy rain lashed Khor Fakkan. I parked my car and came back to watch the rain in the valley.
"That's when I saw some youngsters shouting for help. Some were on the roof of the car and others on the side of the window."
"But they were scared by the flood waters."
Finally, Al Naqbi (left) with the help of his workers, managed to rescue five of the youngsters, while the last one refused to jump into the water.
"He was scared and he said he could not leave the car of his father."
The youngsters are aged between 22 and 23, while the missing student is only 19.
All of them are studying in a college in Ras Al Khaimah.
Later, the 19-year-old student drifted in the flood waters and disappeared.
"I alerted the police. Police Air Wing took the youngsters and started the search for the missing student," said Al Naqbi.
Khor Fakkan Police confirmed the incident and said the rescue teams are searching for the missing student.
