Blaze contained to one unit; residents evacuated as investigation continues
Sharjah: A 46-year-old Indian woman died after a fire broke out in her apartment in the Al Majaz 2 area of Sharjah late Thursday night, authorities confirmed.
According to officials, the woman was reportedly performing a special ritual in her home when the fire erupted, leading to her untimely death.
The fire started around 10.45 pm in a unit located on the eighth floor of an 11-storey residential building. Civil Defence teams, police, and National Ambulance responded swiftly after receiving an emergency call.
The woman’s body has been transferred to the forensic laboratory for an autopsy.
Fortunately, the blaze was quickly contained to a single flat and did not spread to other units. Each floor of the building has 12 apartments, but only the deceased woman's unit sustained fire damage.
As a precaution, authorities sealed off the entire eighth floor, preventing residents from re-entering their apartments until safety assessments could be completed.
One resident from the same floor told Gulf News that no temporary accommodation or support was provided by the building’s management following the evacuation.
“I injured my leg during the incident and am now staying with a friend,” the resident said.
Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire and whether any safety violations were involved.
