DMCC partners with Dubai Police to enhance public safety in JLT and Uptown Dubai
Dubai: Dubai Police have deployed drones in a high-rise district to improve public safety.
Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC) — a leading business district driving global trade through Dubai — has joined forces with Dubai Police to expand its innovative drone network, aiming to improve safety and situational awareness across two of the city’s key business districts: Uptown Dubai and Jumeirah Lakes Towers (JLT).
In a first for the region, Dubai Police have deployed its advanced Drone Box system to monitor high-rise buildings in these districts. This marks a significant leap forward in the integration of smart technologies for urban safety and enhances emergency response capabilities, especially in densely populated, high-rise environments.
Drone Box system
Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Executive Chairman and CEO of DMCC, commented: “The Drone Box system is among the most advanced drone technologies globally, playing a pivotal role in boosting public safety in Dubai. Its deployment across JLT and Uptown Dubai is a significant milestone, underscoring our ongoing commitment to offering the best possible experience in these vibrant communities. The partnership with Dubai Police is a testament to our leadership in promoting smart, innovative, and secure urban living.”
Citywide initiative
Captain Mohammed Omar Almuhairi, Head of the Unmanned Aerial Systems Centre (UASC) at the General Department of Operations, highlighted the system’s importance: “The Drone Box system is part of a citywide initiative by Dubai Police that has proven invaluable in reducing emergency response times and providing vital data for decision-making. Through our collaboration with DMCC, we aim to leverage these advanced capabilities to further enhance public safety in one of the world’s fastest-growing business hubs.”
The Drone Box system, developed by Ondas Autonomous Systems (NASDAQ: ONDS) and supplied by Airobotics DMCC, is certified by the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and is one of the most advanced drone technologies in use today. This marks the first time it will be deployed to monitor high-rise buildings, showcasing Dubai Police’s innovative approach to urban safety.
Beyond visual line of sight
These drones, which operate beyond the visual line of sight, are designed for swift response in emergencies, capturing critical data to support decision-making. First introduced by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, in 2021, the Drone Box initiative is part of Dubai’s ongoing commitment to solidifying its position as a global leader in smart city technologies.
