Dubai: Dubai Municipality has issued a public advisory urging residents to refrain from slaughtering animals outside licensed abattoirs, as part of its campaign: ‘Your Sacrifice’s Safety Is Our Responsibility’.

The municipality stressed that all sacrificial slaughter should be conducted within authorised facilities to uphold public health and safety standards. An official guide has been released outlining the dangers of unregulated slaughter practices and the benefits of using approved abattoirs, including proper hygiene, veterinary oversight, and safe meat handling.

Residents are strongly encouraged to follow these guidelines to safeguard their health and that of their families, and to ensure the sanctity and safety of the ritual during the upcoming Eid Al Adha.

Key steps to follow:

  • When purchasing animals, ensure they are healthy and free from any visible signs of illness, such as wounds, unusual discharges, limping, or abnormal behaviour.

  • Look for clear eyes, smooth breathing, and active movement as signs of good health.

  • Ensure veterinary inspection is carried out both before and after slaughter to confirm the meat is safe for human consumption and free from disease or contamination.

  • Prepare animals in a clean, hygienic, and pollution-free environment.

  • Engage only qualified and licenced butchers to carry out the slaughtering process in all its stages.

  • Handle and dispose of slaughter waste properly to protect environmental safety and prevent the spread of flies, odours, and health hazards.

  • Observe religious practices by facing the animal towards the Qibla, pronouncing the name of Allah, and saying Takbeer (Allahu Akbar) before slaughter.

  • Ensure slaughtered animals are free from veterinary drugs or any substances that may affect the safety of the meat.

By adhering to these steps, the community can help maintain a safe, respectful, and healthy environment during the Eid season.
