Edufair showcases programmes aligned with market demands
Gulf News Edufair opens today at Dubai’s H Hotel on Sheikh Zayed Road, bringing together more than 40 universities and higher education institutions from the UAE and overseas. The event runs until May 11 and includes exhibitions, expert talks, and interactive sessions for students considering their academic futures.
Whether you’ve just received your board results, are still in high school, or a working professional looking to accelerate your career, Edufair offers the resources, expertise, and opportunities to help you move towards your academic and career goals.
Meet top institutions at Edufair
Institutions are leveraging Edufair to spotlight degree programmes aligned with workforce demands in key sectors and connect with the UAE’s student community.
“Over the next five years, programmes in business administration, liberal arts, interior design, data science, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, digital marketing, food and nutrition, and engineering are projected to be in high demand. These programmes respond to evolving global needs,” says Dr Sangeetha Vinod, Deputy Registrar and Associate Professor at Manipal Dubai, participating at Edufair.
“We actively track industry shifts, engage with alumni and adapt our programmes accordingly. Our courses don’t sit still — they evolve with the job market,” she adds.
Amity University Dubai is also showcasing its portfolio of future-ready degrees at the event.
“From robotics, artificial intelligence and machine learning to aerospace engineering, forensic science, and sustainable architecture, our students are immersed in future-focused disciplines backed by advanced laboratories, hands-on research opportunities, and industry collaboration,” says Prof. Rafid Alkhaddar, Pro Vice Chancellor, Amity University Dubai.
With the UAE’s strategic push towards a knowledge-based economy, institutions are also placing increased emphasis on campus experience, mentoring, and practical engagement with industry — all key areas students can explore through direct interaction with representatives at Edufair.
“Students at Amity Dubai benefit from personalised academic support, expert faculty from around the world, and strong ties to leading employers, ensuring a holistic academic experience,” Prof. Alkhaddar says.
Student preferences are shifting towards AI, entrepreneurship, and sustainability, driven by innovation and future career prospects.
"At Canadian University Dubai, we’re responding by launching new programmes like the Bachelor and Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence, and the Bachelor of Business Administration in Entrepreneurship. We’ve also introduced a start-up incubator to support student-led ventures. These initiatives ensure our courses stay aligned with industry trends and equip students with practical skills for a dynamic, evolving job market," said Mustafa Ali Himmati, Student Recruitment Manager, Canadian University Dubai.
International study remains a strong area of interest for many attendees, and education consultants at Edufair are providing insights into how students can secure admissions in top global universities. According to Clint Khan, Director at Y-Axis, students are reassessing their choices in light of policy updates in traditional destinations.
“We have witnessed a noticeable shift in student preferences following recent visa regulation changes in Canada, Australia, and the USA. While these traditional destinations remain popular, students are increasingly considering alternative countries that offer quality education, easier visa processes, and strong post-study work opportunities,” Khan says.
“We are seeing growing interest in countries such as the UK, Germany, and other EU countries. Students today are making more strategic decisions, considering long-term career outcomes alongside their academic goals,” he says.
Y-Axis is outlining a range of global study options at Edufair. “We will also introduce our partnerships with top universities and trusted accommodation providers, offering students a seamless transition to their study destination,” Khan adds
Professional education is another core focus at Edufair, with institutions showcasing how certification-based programmes can support students as well as early- and mid-career professionals.
“In the Middle East, where industries are rapidly evolving, professional certifications offer a critical edge. Designed for specialised roles, they provide industry-aligned, practical expertise that meets global standards and local market demands,” says Basil Hanna, Managing Director at Kaplan Middle East & North Africa.
Kaplan is presenting a broad range of qualifications at the event that support learners aiming to enter new sectors or move up in their current fields.
The unmissable segment of every Edufair is its seminar series, which tackles pressing topics in education – from course demand and interdisciplinary learning to upskilling and shifts in global study trends. Speakers from academia and industry will break down developments affecting students, professionals, and institutions, offering insights to guide academic planning and career choices.
