Abu Dhabi: A total of 500 Emirati pupils who have demonstrated outstanding academic and extracurricular performance recently flew out to a number of countries for the Abu Dhabi Education Council’s (Adec) annual Summer Abroad programme.

The programme provides selected participants enrolled in Grades 10 and 11 with four weeks of training in English, maths, science and leadership skills.

In a statement sent on Tuesday, Adec said the children were receiving training this year in Canada, the United States and Ireland. They will attend an orientation session to familiarise them with the country’s language and history on arrival.

This year marks the eighth Summer Abroad initiative, which is held under the patronage of General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council.
