Dubai's new parent-school contract revealed

Dubai: Gulf News has acquired a draft of the new parent-school contract that is being implemented in phases by the The Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) in Dubai.

The contract, which is being implemented across schools in Dubai over the past year, lays down the rules across several areas, including the studying of Arabic, refund policies and even social media protocol for parents and students.

Regarding the study of Arabic in schools, the KHDA compliance and resolution chief Amal Bel Hasa stressed that “as per the UAE law, Arabic classes are mandatory and non-Arab students will study an adapted version of the syllabus.”

Last week, the KHDA implemented phase three of its parent-school contracts in Indian and Pakistani schools across Dubai. The KHDA press office said these contracts have already been introduced in other schools and are to be introduced in all schools in Dubai irrespective of their ethnic majority or curriculum.
