School in Academic City offers 1,600 seats from kindergarten to Grade 5
Dubai: A third school under the aegis of Delhi Public School Society is ready to meet the growing demand for Indian schools in the UAE.
Delhi Public School Academy (DPS), which is located in Academic City, will commence classes in April 2013. The enrolment process has already begun with pupils from Dubai and Sharjah in focus. The school follows the ICSE (Indian Certificate of Secondary Education) curriculum.
The school has decided on an intake of 1,600 pupils from the kindergarten level to Grade 5 initially before starting classes for Grades 6-8 next year. The school has a capacity for 3,500 students and there are plans to enroll students up to Grade 12 in the near future.
Unlike the two other DPS Academies in Sharjah and Dubai that follow the CBS curriculum, the new school in Academic City will follow the ICSE curriculum. “The reason for the different curriculum is because we found that there is demand for the ICSE curriculum and so want to cater to those parents and students who do want to join an ICSE curriculum,” said principal Mousumi Dasgupta .
“There is a misconception that the ICSE curriculum is more difficult than the CBSE [Central Board of Secondary Education]. It depends on preference, children wanting to study abroad as well as in India may join ICSE curriculum as it is structured and project oriented,” she added.
The new DPS Academy tuition fees will range from Dh21,000 to Dh30,000 and students will be chosen based on their previous school results, their performance in an interactive session and given that they fulfill the Knowledge and Human Development Authority’s (KHDA) age criteria.
