Abu Dhabi: An Arabic Scrabble Project will be launched during the 2013-2014 academic year to Grade 6 pupils enrolled at public schools in f Abu Dhabi, the Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) announced on Monday.

The introduction of the word-based board game as an extra-curricular activity seeks to enhance children’s written and oral skills in Arabic by enabling them to acquire new vocabulary, as well as to restore youth pride in the language.

The project will also be expanded to include all grades at Cycle 2 (Grades 6 to 9) and Cycle 3 (Grades 10 to 12) public schools at a later stage.

The project has already been piloted in six schools in Abu Dhabi, and officials noted an improvement in writing skills for most of the students who have participated in the game compared to their peers who did not.
