Abu Dhabi: The UAE will introduce its first nationally developed artificial intelligence curriculum in public schools this fall, part of an ambitious effort to prepare students for a technology-driven future.

Sarah Al Amiri, Minister of Education, announced on Monday that more than 1,000 trained teachers will deliver the program across all grade levels during the 2025–2026 academic year.

The initiative, she said, is designed to equip nearly one million students with the skills to use A.I. responsibly and effectively in both their daily lives and future careers.

The new curriculum will cover computing concepts and AI applications, with a quarter of lessons dedicated to ethics to encourage safe and responsible use of emerging technologies.

Students in lower grades will attend A.I. classes once every two weeks, while those in upper grades will have weekly sessions.

“This is not only to teach coding or algorithms,” Al Amiri said at a media briefing in Dubai. “We look forward to preparing a generation to think critically about how to use artificial intelligence in ways that serve society.”

To support the reforms, the ministry has opened nine new schools, recruited more than 800 teachers, distributed 47,000 laptops and maintained more than 460 existing schools.

It has also launched a campaign titled From Skill to Leadership,” aimed at fostering student talent and excellence through partnerships, competitions and family engagement.

The A.I. program, which the ministry says is the first of its kind in the region, is set to support the government’s onging efforts to position the UAE as a leader in artificial intelligence.
