Dubai: While lovers around the world were marking Valentine's Day with roses and candlelight dinners, hundreds of workers in a Dubai-based company also had a memorable Thursday night.
Labourers belonging to Transgulf, an electromechanical company in Al Quoz, were treated to a Bollywood movie featuring Superstar Amitabh Bachchan, a free postcard millionaire pack, while their company gifted them each with a National Bonds certificate. In both, the workers have chances to win millions.
Meesala Rajeshwar Meesala a labourer, received a special goody bag on his wedding anniversary. Workers Shinod Gopalakrishnan and Jobi Joseph were also showered with gifts on their birthday.
The accommodation premises was filled with happy and relaxed faces as workers were busy trying to get themselves the best spot to watch movie Hum (Us) on a large screen that was specially erected on which the film was to be projected.
The workers broke into a thunderous applause when Amitabh Bachchan made his appearance on the screen.
"I have seen this particular movie with my wife many years back and today I see it alone. The memories of the time spent with my wife in the movie hall came flooding back to me. We were newly married and this happened to be the first movie that we had gone to watch as a married couple," said Suresh a worker.
"It was a nice Valentine gift to me on my wedding anniversary. The only regret is that I do not have my wife with me to share this moment. But then this is life. I will tell her all about it when I telephone her next time. She is back in India," said Meesala.
"I don't know exactly what Valentine Day stands for. We do not celebrate it in our family but there is so much buzz about it in the city. I am just glad that we all workers had a good time tonight," said Kesavan, another worker.
The movie night was brought to them by the Postcard Millionaire campaign.
