Dubai: Dubai Police have called on members of the public who witness traffic law violations to use the ‘We are All Police’ programme to report them instead of ignoring the incidents. This will help in identifying violators and keeping roads safe, an official said on Thursday.

Brigadier Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, director of Traffic Department of Dubai Police, said with the help of We are All Police initiative [through the app and phone calls], police have recorded a total of 101,505 violations since the beginning of this year, of which 42,303 have been reported by members of the public. Last year, there were 80,710 violations during the same period, of which 38,163 were reported by the public.
As many as 20,561 violations have been reported via the We are All Police window in the Dubai Police app this year.
“The initiative aims to serve people who find themselves exposed to situations they would wish to report as they are often victims of aggressive driving [by others] that exposes them to danger,” Brigadier Al Mazroui said.
We are All Police also relies on incidents caught by surveillance cameras across the emirate. Of the 101,505 violations so far this year, 19,375 were recorded by surveillance cameras monitored by officers.
“Members of the public can either use the Dubai Police smart app or call the command room. We can’t issue a fine against the reckless driver immediately but we will call and warn them and check the cameras before issuing a ticket,” Brigadier Al Mazroui said.
When reporting a violation, a member of the public may also give the details like the location where it happened and the plate number of the offending vehicle.
“Many members of the society see [what is happening on] the roads or are annoyed by motorists whose reckless driving might endanger the lives of other road users. This programme gives a chance to motorists to monitor each other to lead to better driving attitudes on the roads,” he added.
Meanwhile, any police officer can also report violations by using the application or calling the command centre. In that case, the fine will be issued immediately without the need to verify.
Since 2014 when We are All Police window was launched in the Dubai Police app, more and more people have started using it to report traffic violations.
However, police stressed that the public should not use the app to record violations while driving.
The fines, which can be recorded through the application, are: parking in prohibited areas, parking behind another vehicle and blocking its movement, parking on the pavement, parking in front of fire hydrants or in spaces allocated for people with special needs and ambulance parking.
How to report violations
Dubai Police said that if you want to report violations, you must first register with the We Are All Police programme via Dubai Police’s website. You can then report any incident through the police app or by calling either of these three numbers: 8007777, 8004353 or 901.
