Dubai Police has announced it plans to set up a college of e-learning, making it the first of its kind in the Middle East.
Maj-Gen Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Dubai Police Chief, who announced the setting up of the 'On-Line College of Total Quality' during a press conference at Dubai Police Headquarters on Sunday, said it would be part of a project to launch Dubai Police E-learning.
"This is being done on the instruction of Gen Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and UAE Minister of Defence," he said.
The college will provide services that include academic courses and university-level training programmes in the field of total quality management in the police and government sector.
Educational services will be provided on-line at Dh100 for each academic or training programme.
"The project will target Arabic speakers from any nationality, as the courses will be provided in Arabic," said Maj-Gen Dhahi.
"The E-learning project aims at improving services offered by the governmental sector to the public. It mainly targets the public sector and government employees, while supporting the international image of Dubai, and bringing about a quantity shift in the services provided by Dubai Police," he added.
The college will be set up in several stages. "The first stage will take three years, during which the courses and training sessions will be given separately. In the second stage, the courses will be reorganised and classified into specific majors in total quality management, where the student obtains a diploma at the end of the study period," he explained.
The certificates issued by the college will be accredited to international higher educational institutions in the U.S. and the UK. Maj-Gen Dhahi will be the college president.
The setting up of the college follows a huge demand for such an institution after courses of this nature were held by Dubai Police earlier, said the Dubai Police Chief.
