Dubai Mallathon kicks off: Walk, run, and win prizes across 9 malls this August
Gulf News

Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, the Dubai Mallathon launches on Friday.

This citywide fitness drive will transform nine of Dubai’s top shopping malls into climate-controlled walking and running tracks, promoting health and wellbeing during the summer months.

The initiative aligns with Dubai’s Year of Community and Quality of Life Strategy, offering residents and visitors a safe, comfortable space to stay active despite the heat.

With over 10 kilometres of indoor tracks available, participants can walk, jog, or run while enjoying daily activities and weekend challenges, plus a chance to win exciting prizes including iPhones and shopping vouchers.

The Mallathon supports the Year of Community campaign, Dubai Social Agenda 33, and Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 33, aiming to encourage residents and visitors to adopt a more active lifestyle in safe, comfortable environments.

9 malls, over 10 kilometres of indoor tracks

Participating malls include Dubai Mall, Dubai Hills Mall, Mall of the Emirates, City Centre Deira, City Centre Mirdif, Dubai Marina Mall, The Springs Souk, Dubai Festival City, and Festival Plaza. Together, these venues offer more than 10 km of air-conditioned tracks open daily from 7 to 10 am throughout August.

Engaging activities and exciting prizes

Daily activities and weekend sports challenges will engage people of all ages and interests. Attendees will have the chance to win over 40 iPhones, 10 tablets, shopping vouchers, gift cards, and other prizes in a lively community atmosphere.

The Ministry of Defence reaffirmed its dedication to initiatives promoting public health and quality of life, highlighting physical activity as key to a resilient society and community cohesion.

Saeed Hareb, Secretary-General of the Dubai Sports Council, said the Mallathon reflects HH Sheikh Hamdan’s vision to promote community health, making physical activity accessible and fun in iconic venues. He emphasised Dubai’s position as a global sports hub offering diverse opportunities for all residents, including special activities for senior citizens.

Inclusive event fostering community spirit

The Mallathon welcomes participants of all ages and backgrounds—from youth and children to senior citizens, mall employees, and members of the ‘MyDubai Communities’ initiative.

Sponsored by the Ministry of Defence and organised with the Dubai Sports Council, the Mallathon is supported by partners including Mai Dubai, UAE Sports For All Federation, Al Tadawi Specialty Hospital, and Dubai Cooperative Society. Uber and Careem provide exclusive transport discounts for attendees.

Health check-ups and nutrition guidance

Free health screenings, nutritional consultations, and healthy food options at select outlets reinforce the event’s wellness focus.

The Community Development Authority, in partnership with participating malls, will host ‘Walking for Better Health,’ encouraging senior citizens to stay active in secure, engaging spaces, celebrating their vital community role.

Free participation

The Dubai Mallathon is free and open to everyone. Participants can register online at www.dubaimallathon.ae and will receive a digital participation card upon signing up.
