Dubai expresses solidarity with Gaza children
Dubai: Various government departments in Dubai yesterday observed a solidarity day in support of the children in Gaza, which the Israeli army continues to pound wantonly killing and wounding hundreds of women and children.
The solidarity day was announced by the General Secretariat of the Dubai Executive Council to express support to the Palestinian children in Gaza, under the banner "Gaza children are our children". Government employees expressed their solidarity and sympathy with Gaza and its people and their pride of the UAE's leading role in helping the Palestinians, especially children, suffering from the effects of the war. They thanked Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, for launching the solidarity programme.
The solidarity campaign is in line with the instructions of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
More than Dh2 million was donated by Dubai Police personnel yesterday as part of the solidarity campaign held at Dubai Police Headquarters.
Major General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina, Dubai Police's Deputy Commander General, presented a cheque for the amount to Khalfan Al Mazroui, CEO of Dar Al Bir Charity Association. The support campaign at the Headquarters, which runs until today, includes an exhibition and donation boxes for those wishing to donate. Lieutenant General Dahi Khalfan Tamim, Chief of Dubai Police, had donated his six months' salary as a personal contribution to support the children of Gaza. He said that he hopes that the donations will help ease the suffering of the Gazans.
