Clare Jeffery, a year nine student of Dubai College, takes a peep into the universe. Recently, students of Dubai College and their parents had a special date with the stars when they took a visual trip to the far reaches of the galaxy during a special Astronomical Evening.
Several telescopes were set up on the college grounds, including one donated by the Friends of Dubai College, an organisation run by parents to support school projects.
After an introductory talk on what celestial bodies were visible at that time, students were able to see for themselves the craters on the Moon, Venus, Jupiter and its moons, Saturn with its rings, some "double" stars, and the great nebula in Orion where stars are being "born".
Studying the stars and the solar system is part of the GCSE syllabus at the College.
