Dubai — The Security Industry Regulatory Authority (SIRA) has officially launched the much-anticipated “Tawash” system, a groundbreaking AI-powered digital solution designed to revolutionise the security of gold and jewellery transportation in Dubai.

First introduced at the Intersec 2025 exhibition, the system is now fully operational, setting new benchmarks for safety, compliance, and operational efficiency.

Transforming gold transport

At an event held at the Security Training Center in Dubai, key stakeholders from the gold and jewellery industry gathered to witness the unveiling of the “Tawash” system. This innovative platform aims to overhaul the transportation of precious metals, utilising cutting-edge technology to ensure real-time tracking, robust protection, and full adherence to regulatory guidelines.

A smarter approach

“Tawash” is designed to streamline the gold transport process while maximising security and transparency. One of its standout features is the elimination of third-party intermediaries, allowing gold and jewellery companies to manage their transport operations directly. As long as they adhere to SIRA-approved protocols — such as using certified security-approved bags — the system ensures a secure and smooth transport process.

Engineer Jassim Taher, Director of Special Projects at SIRA, said: “This is more than just a new security tool; it’s a fundamental shift in how the industry operates. From tracking and compliance to safety, everything is smarter and more transparent, helping businesses operate efficiently while meeting stringent regulatory standards,” said Engineer Taher.

Enhanced security features

A key element of the “Tawash” system is its stringent security measures, particularly the use of specialised transport bags designed to meet high safety standards.

These security-approved bags come equipped with several advanced features:

Smart alarm systems that trigger if unauthorised access is detected

Loud sirens to alert authorities in case of a security breach

Electronic locking systems to prevent tampering

Protection against forced openings using cutting or breaking tools

SIRA has made it clear that only bags passing rigorous testing will be allowed within the “Tawash” system. Traditional, untested bags will be prohibited. To ensure the highest standards, bags will undergo comprehensive testing at SIRA’s laboratory before being approved for use.

Real-time monitoring

“Tawash” not only enhances security but also introduces real-time monitoring and operational transparency. One of its most innovative features is the “Guest Invites” system, which allows authorised personnel to transport gold under strict supervision. All movements are tracked through a smart app, ensuring full oversight.

The system also provides a digital dashboard for store managers to monitor transport operations in real time. Alerts are triggered in the event of suspicious activity or unplanned stops, enabling quick action to protect shipments and prevent potential threats.

Compliance enforcement

To ensure the system’s integrity, SIRA has empowered Dubai Police to conduct immediate audits on any gold transport operation. Companies that fail to comply with the security guidelines or attempt to bypass regulations — such as transporting excessive amounts of gold without proper security provisions — will face severe penalties, including fines.

New chapter

The launch of “Tawash” marks a new chapter in Dubai’s gold market, combining AI, cutting-edge security, and real-time monitoring to create a smarter, safer, and more efficient way of transporting valuable goods. The system not only reduces risks but also enhances industry transparency, providing businesses with a reliable platform for secure operations.

Engineer Taher concluded: “With ‘Tawash,’ we are laying the groundwork for a secure, transparent, and stable environment within Dubai’s gold market. Our goal is to safeguard the interests of businesses while ensuring that the sector remains fully regulated and protected.”

Dubai’s gold and jewellery companies are now encouraged to adopt the “Tawash” system to enhance the security of their operations, ensuring compliance with the new regulations and maximising operational efficiency. With its robust features and commitment to safety, the “Tawash” system is set to become the gold standard for securing precious cargo in the market.
