Worker to serve term for consensual sex

Saleswoman accused him of kidnap and rape

Dubai: An employee has been jailed for three months after a court found him guilty of having consensual sex with a saleswoman, who accused him of raping her.

When the 27-year-old Emirati employee appeared before the Dubai Court of First Instance, he refuted the 27-year-old Tunisian saleswoman's claim of kidnapping her with deception and raping her.

He contended that he had consensual sex with the woman and denied what he described as her ‘baseless accusation'.

Presiding Judge Al Saeed Mohammad Barghout also acquitted the defendant, M.K., of kidnapping the Tunisian woman for lack of corroborated evidence.

According to the arraignment sheet, prosecutors said M.K. kidnapped the saleswoman by deceiving her, before driving to a deserted area in Al Qusais where he allegedly raped her in his sports utility vehicle.

The saleswoman claimed that M.K. convinced her to travel with him in his car by promising to discuss their marriage in a coffee shop.

Instead he allegedly undressed and raped her.

The primary verdict remains subject to appeal within 12 days.
