Defendant claims police promised to release him if he confessed
Dubai: A worker has been accused of sexually molesting a secretary by lifting up her skirt in public and trying to grope her private parts.
The 28-year-old Filipina secretary alleged that the 27-year-old Bangladeshi worker lifted up her skirt and groped her shortly after she stepped out of a public bus at Dubai Investment Park, according to prosecution records.
“No I did not do such a thing. I was not aware of what I did or what happened. I was not feeling well that day,” claimed 27-year-old T.I. when he defended himself before the Dubai Court of First Instance on Thursday.
According to the accusation sheet, prosecutors said the defendant groped the woman’s breast and posterior against her will and hugged her as well.
“When police questioned me, they promised to let me go and drop the case if I confessed. And that was what I did… I only confessed because of that but I am not guilty sir,” T.I. argued before Presiding Judge Ali Attiyah Saad.
The secretary testified that the incident happened around 8pm when she stepped down from the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) bus in the station.
“I felt that someone went down directly behind me and followed me… I looked behind and spotted the Bangladeshi suspect. He walked far from me for a short distance… then someone took me by surprise and hugged me from behind. When I looked back, I discovered that it was the same person [the suspect]. I lost balance and fell down to the ground from surprise… the defendant lifted up my skirt. Then he touched my top and bottom. Immediately I scolded him and cried for help. Some passersby rushed to help me and they restrained the suspect until police arrived,” claimed the Filipina.
Records said some passersby prevented the suspect from running away.
A verdict will be heard on November 26.
