Ajman: A Russian woman who attacked a policeman with a knife on Monday night has been referred to the Ajman public prosecution after causing cuts to the veins of his hand while on duty.

The policeman charged the woman with attempted murder, Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Saif Al Matroushi, Director of the Criminal Investigation Department at Ajman Police told Gulf News.

The policeman tried to calm the hysterical suspect down in an Ajman restaurant, which led to her smashing the furniture of the restaurant.

She claimed that she was in a dispute with the restaurant over a meal before things got out of hand.

Police will refer the suspect to a psychological doctor to examine her condition and determine whether she suffers from a mental disorder.

The police investigation also revealed that the suspect was violating the UAE residency law and she was staying illegally in the state for more than 200 days.

The policeman was admitted to Rashid Hospital in Dubai with stab wounds on Monday night and he was recovered and discharged from hospital on Wednesday.

Al Matroushi requested that the public stay away from places where the police is doing their job and urged community members to clear the roads for police forces.

He added that members of the public should not take and share photos of crime scenes where police are working.

Brigadier General Ali Alwan, commander-in-chief of Ajman Police told Gulf News that the incident was reported to the police operations room by a restaurant employee asking for help after the woman became hysterical and broke everything around her.
