A man was found dead in his Deira hotel room on Sunday evening, according to a Dubai police source. He had been staying at the two-star hotel with a friend.

"They came together from Pakistan and checked in on Saturday. They were supposed to checkout the next day. On Sunday evening, hotel management did not get the room key, and called the police to open their room," the source said.

He said when they opened the door, they found the man's body on the bed.

"It seems his friend left the hotel earlier that day," he said.

Police suspect the cause of death might be drug poisoning. They are also not ruling out murder.

Gulf News spoke to the hotel manager, who said the men paid for one-night's stay only.

"They checked in on January 15 and were supposed to checkout at 1.30pm on the 16th. On the morning of the 16th, only one of the men paid the bill, and took both passports claiming he had to go and book tickets."
