Federal authority reaffirms vigilance after the drug seizure at the airport
Abu Dhabi: The General Administration of Ports at the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security successfully foiled an attempt to smuggle a significant quantity of drugs — specifically 5 kilograms of marijuana — cleverly concealed in a traveller’s luggage at Zayed International Airport.
The incident occurred when customs inspection teams became suspicious of a passenger’s bags as they passed through the airport’s advanced screening systems.
The scans revealed abnormal substances that did not appear natural, prompting a more thorough inspection. A manual search, supported by the K9 unit from the Customs and Security Support Administration, confirmed the presence of narcotics hidden within the luggage.
The Authority reaffirmed its ongoing commitment to strengthening its inspection capabilities by adopting the latest technologies and advanced techniques to protect society from the dangers of narcotics. This operation sends a clear message: any attempt to compromise the nation’s security will be met with firm and proactive measures.
Officials emphasised that protecting public safety, maintaining national stability, and shielding young people from the devastating effects of drugs remain top priorities. The Authority continues to refine its strategies to stay ahead of increasingly sophisticated smuggling methods, reinforcing its role in the national effort to combat drug trafficking and safeguard the UAE community.
