Sharjah: Police have arrested two men and charged them with stabbing an Indian woman in her 20s to death, and stealing her jewellery and other valuables.

The murder occurred on Thursday at the victim's home in Sharjah's Bu Danig area behind the Mega Mall.

A senior police official said the suspects were arrested within 24 hours after the crime and despite the lack of clues or information at the crime scene, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at Sharjah Police was able to track down and arrest the Indian suspects.

"During interrogation, one of the suspects confessed that he knew the victim and her family. The suspects also led police to their hide-out, where they had kept the items stolen from the victim, which included gold jewellery and a laptop computer valued at Dh50,000," said Colonel Mohammad Rashid Bayat, Director of CID, adding that the suspects lived near the victim's residence.

Call from mother

The Central Operations room at Sharjah Police received a call from the victim's mother, who lived with her daughter and son-in law on the fifth floor of a residential building.

"She found her daughter's lifeless body on the floor in a pool of blood in one of the bedrooms. A CID team and forensic experts were immediately dispatched to the scene," said Col Bayat. Neighbours said the mother was so distraught at finding her daughter dead that she went to the nearest grocery shop screaming for help before calling police.

During investigation, suspicion fell on a man in his 20s and another in his 30s.

"One of the suspects knew the victim and had been invited into her home on previous occasions, so he knew what valuable possessions she had. They also knew the routine of her family and when the victim was alone at home, the suspects attacked her," said the police official.

They allegedly stabbed the victim in the neck, chest and abdomen, and took all the jewellery and other valuables.
