Sharjah: An Indian teenager is fighting for his life after falling from the third floor of an apartment building in Al Butaina area on Friday evening, a Sharjah Police official told Gulf News.

Al Hira police station said they were notified that a young man was lying in a pool of blood near a building located in Al Butaina area in Sharjah.

A police patrol and paramedics were moved immediately to the scene of the incident where the boy was found on the ground.

Police were called at about 5pm on Friday and told a young man had fallen from the building, his family’s home, in Al Butaina area.

“Our ambulances and rescue team rushed to the scene only to find the boy critical and bleeding,” said a police official.

The 19-year-old, identified as A.S.Y., was taken to Al Kuwaiti Hospital, where later his condition worsened and he was transferred to Al Qasimi Hospital. His condition is said to be critical. The man is currently being cared for in the intensive care unit at the hospital and is under constant watch of a police guard.

It is believed that he attempted to commit suicide, a police official said.

Witnesses in nearby shops told Gulf News the scene was heartbreaking to see as emergency officials rushed the young man away for medical treatment.

“We just stayed here and couldn’t bear to go and see it as police carried the young man away. The words coming from the neighbours who went to the scene scared me more — I could just bury my face in my hands and cry.” said a man who works in the nearby supermarket.

Police appealed to building owners and tenants to exercise strict caution in all high-rise buildings and ensure that all safety measures were in place.

Al Hira Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
