Abu Dhabi: An African girl was rescued on Tuesday by Civil Defence teams after she tried to commit suicide by jumping from the eighth floor balcony of a building in Al Zahia, Tourist Club area, in Abu Dhabi.

Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Abdul Jaleel Al Ansari, director-general of Civil Defence in Abu Dhabi, said Civil Defence teams received the report from the operations room at 10.37am and rescue teams were immediately dispatched to the site and stopped the girl from jumping from the balcony.

Al Ansari added that teams accomplished the rescue mission with the support of Al Mina Street Centre, which provided the necessary tools, facilities and equipment for the rescue operation.

Rescuers convinced the girl not to jump from the balcony and brought her down safely using a firefighting ladder.

The girl was checked to ensure her well-being and safety.
