Sharjah: Police on Monday confirmed they are investigating a robbery of Dh624,000 from a Pakistani national who had withdrawn the amount from a bank.

He was attacked by a group of men near his home at Bu Daniq area.

A Sharjah Police official said that the operations room received a call last week from the victim, who was allegedly attacked by men near his home who stole his money and ran away.

"We have already intensified our search for the suspects. During the preliminary investigation, the victim told us that he had withdrawn money from a bank before heading to his home located at Bu Daniq area. When he parked his car near his home, he was attacked by a group of men who stole his money."

During the interrogation, the victim said he could not remember how many people were involved in the assault, except that there were more than two men. The police official said it was probable that the suspects might have been monitoring the victim's movements.

‘A team from the Criminal Investigation Department is on the case and the search is still going on. We have also received several reports about a series of robberies that targeted residents who were attacked after they withdrew money from their banks," explained the police official, who pointed out that the burglars allegedly broke the windows of vehicles and stole the cash.

Sharjah Police are warning residents to take precautions and not leave money in their vehicles, in addition to taking along a trustworthy person while withdrawing large amounts of cash from banks or ATMs.
