Sharjah: Sharjah Police arrested a man on charges of electronic fraud of a private company after he hacked into its accounts and e-mails.
Al Hira police station received a complaint from a Canadian businessman who owns the company in Sharjah. The man reported that he was defrauded through the internet and the suspect hacked all his personal and privates files and passwords
The electronic crime section of the Department of Organised Crime at the Sharjah Criminal Investigation Department investigated the case and suspected a person working as an accountant in one of the private companies operating in a neighboring emirate.
The police arrested the suspect who confessed to the fraud and other similar charges.
He would send mails to the companies, reporting that their bank statements had been changed and that all the money for their importing processes should be forwarded to the new account.
The suspect was referred to the Public Prosecution for further interrogation
Sharjah Police urged the public to report any unlawful, immoral and indecent activities such as this. They pointed out that the work of security agencies also includes preventing offences related to indecent behaviour.
Police also warned community members about a recent wave of extortion cases involving the abuse of social networking sites.
He pointed out that criminals are always thinking of new ways to trap their prey. He reminded people to be cautious regarding talking to strangers on the internet. Users should download up-to-date anti-virus software and not use the automatic log-in option.
Sharjah Police recently launched an intensive media campaign to raise awareness regarding the potential dangers of using social networking services.
