Sharjah: Forensic experts on Tuesday were sifting through a charred house to determine the cause of the fire which killed an Asian mother and her son late Monday night in Sharjah.
The Pakistani mother, 40, and her seven-year-old son died of burn injuries after a fire broke out in the house located in Maysloon area in Sharjah, officials confirmed to Gulf News on Tuesday. At least 25 people shared the house, including bachelors and families.
The grandfather of the boy is now recovering at Khalifa Hospital in Ajman from symptoms of a heart attack due to fire shock. The fire gutted the house and then spread to the adjacent house, said Major Hani Rashid Dahmani, Director of Media and Public Relation Department at Sharjah Police. The victims included Pakistani mother aged 40 and her son aged 7. Bodies were moved to the forensic laboratory for an autopsy.

On Tuesday, Gulf News visited the site and found forensic experts working at the site to determine the cause of the fire.
Initial reports suggested the fire might have started from an electricity source.
Major Hani said the fire broke out around 9.43pm and tenants from nearby houses were evacuated for their safety.
Quick response from Sharjah Civil Defence and Police patrols averted a bigger disaster and saved dozens of lives as they managed to contain the blaze within a short time, he said.
Brigadier Mohammad Rashid Bayat, Director of Sharjah Police Operations, who visited the accident site, told Gulf News that it was too early to pinpoint the cause of the fire. He said the police would summon the owner of the house for questioning.
The residents who were evacuated from the nearby houses were allowed to come back after 3am after the fire was completely put out. Sunil Joseph, 30, an Indian resident, told Gulf News: “I took my family to a nearby building and stayed there till 3am.”
Zenat, from India in her 50’s said that the deceased had two children. Her elder child, 9, travelled to Pakistan with his father three days before the fire.
Wreckage of deceased’s gutted car was seen on the road outside the house.
Three other people were also taken to hospital,including an elderly man,67, who suffered a heart attack and his daughter and grandson who suffered burns.
