Dubai: Police's Traffic Department will place traffic patrols on all the roads, with an average of one patrol every one to two kilometers as part of a new mechanism to reduce accidents.

The announcement came as a Turkish man was killed yesterday afternoon after a car ran him over on Dubai Bypass Road. The victim was killed on the spot.

Lieutenant Colonel Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, deputy director of the traffic department, said it reported three deaths and five road accidents during the weekend.

He said the traffic department will work on the new mechanism to reduce road accidents and deaths by intensifying traffic patrols on the roads, especially on the roads that report large numbers of run over accidents.

Lt Col Al Mazroui said the focus will be on the highways, especially the Dubai-Hatta Road, Al Khawaneej Road, Jebel Ali-Lehbab Road, Al Khail Road and Emirates Road.
