Dubai: Dubai Police have seized thousands of fake luxury watches and mobile phones worth Dh33 million in two separate raids.
Brigadier Salem Al Rumaithi, Director of the General Department of Criminal and Investigation at Dubai Police, said they arrested an Asian man who was selling fake watches of famous brands.
“We received information about a warehouse in Ras Al Khor, soring fake products. We raided the warehouse and arrested the owner and seized 98,000 fake watches,” said Brigadier Al Rumaithi.
He stored the watches in the warehouse and was selling them illegally. The market value of these watches is about Dh23 million. The man was referred to Dubai public prosecution.
In the second operation, Dubai Police arrested four Asian men who were assembling smart phones in a residential villa in Al Hamriya area.
“They were assembling the fake phones and then selling them illegally in the market. The phones and their accessories worth Dh10 million were confiscated. The phones were counterfiet of some famous brands. We also seized the machines and tools used by the gang to assemble the fake phones,” he added. The four men were referred to the prosecution.
Meanwhile, Lt Col Omar Mohammad Bin Hammad, deputy director of the Anti-Economic Crime Department at Dubai Police, called on people to report immediately if they come across the counterfeit goods.
“It is a global trade that affects legitimate businesses. We regularly inspect shops and warehouses to seize fake goods and raise public awareness about it,” Lt Col Bin Hammad said.
