Sharjah: Sharjah Police on Thursday completed their investigation into the case of a four-year-old Emirati boy who died after drowning in his school’s pool and referred the case to public prosecution for further investigation.
On Wednesday morning, the victim drowned in the swimming pool of the Australian International School, off Maliha-Kalba Road in Sharjah.
The hospital staff informed the Industrial Area Police which then dispatched a team from its Criminal Investigation Department to school to investigate the cause of the accident.
Interrogation
Police interrogated five staff members of the school who were on the scene attending the swimming classes at the time the accident occurred.
Meanwhile, one of the family members of the child said they are waiting for the results of the investigation to take the right decision.
The spokesperson of the Sharjah Education Council on Thursday told Gulf News that the public prosecution is investigating the incident and they will cooperate with them and provide them with necessary help.
Authorities stressed that they will take strict measures after the investigation.
“We will be cooperating with the Ministry of Education for a follow-up investigation of the incident.”
Safety measures
Mohammad Ahmad Al Mulla, Director of the Education Department at the Sharjah Education Council, stressed the council’s keenness to follow up all safety procedures in schools and that preserving the lives of students is the top priority for schools. It should take all safety measures.
Al Mulla expressed great sadness and sorrow to announce the death of the student, offering condolences to the family and students.
The council, in close cooperation with the Ministry of Education, is following up the matter closely.
Legal procedures
A team from the council has moved to the headquarters of the school to follow up and await the legal procedures being carried out by the concerned authorities.
The kindergarten student’s death has left the school staff devastated. “Our heartfelt condolences go to the pupil’s family,” a member of the school administration told Gulf News.
The school is monitored with a CCTV system and more than 45 teachers were on duty that day.
The school closed its doors on Thursday to mourn the child’s death. Regular school operations will resume on Monday.
