Men arrested for thefts during Taraweeh prayers in Ajman

Ajman: Several men have been arrested by Ajman Police during Ramadan after money and other valuables were stolen from cars in Ajman while their owners were performing Taraweeh prayers.

Colonel Abdullah Saif Al Matroushi, Director of the Criminal and Investigation Department, said the suspects allegedly broke the triangular glass and opened the car door to steal valuable items.

They chose Taraweeh prayer time to commit the crime, Colonel Al Matroushi said

Police have appealed to vehicle owners several times not to leave valuables visible inside cars.

Col Al Matroushi said police patrols have been deployed near all mosques in Ajman during Ramadan. Car owners lodged complaints that money, handbags, wallets and other valuables were stolen from cars while they were performing Taraweeh prayers.

The incidents happened only during Ramadan, he said.

Col Al Matroushi said the suspects made sure no one noticed them when they committed the thefts.

The incidents happened in different locations and the arrests were made after catching some suspects red-handed.

The suspects confessed and explained to police how they stole the money from cars.

The case has been referred to the public prosecution.

Meanwhile, Ajman Police have ended their campaign titled ‘Taraweeh thieves’ to educate car owners on how to secure their vehicles parked in public places and in front of mosques during Taraweeh prayers.
