Dubai: A blacksmith has been accused of fatally stabbing a co-worker after after the victim touched him inappropriately, a Dubai Court of First Instance heard on Monday.

The 21-year-old Pakistani defendant was charged with premeditated murder after he stabbed the victim fatally, and attempted murder as he also stabbed the victim’s friend.

According to prosecutors, on May 9 this year, Dubai Police were alerted about a murder at a labour accommodation in Al Quoz Industrial area.

When officers and ambulance reached the spot, they found the Indian victim lying in a pool of blood near the staircase and another man bleeding beside him.

“Witnesses said they saw the defendant fleeing the accommodation carrying a knife and informed his supervisor that he had stabbed the victims,” a 30-year-old Emirati policeman said in official records.

“We arrested him near a mosque and he confessed that he stabbed the victim because he had touched his bottom.”

The defendant claimed he had consumed alcohol and when he went to his room, he saw the victim and his friend sitting on the stairs and blocking his way. The defendant claimed the victim touched him inappropriately.

“The defendant said he was angry and went to his room and picked up a knife and returned. They were still sitting on the stairs and he said the victim once again touched him on his bottom, so he stabbed him in his chest and stabbed the second in his back,” the policeman added in his testimony.

However, the second victim, a 25-year-old Indian worker, claimed that he did not know the defendant and that he was consuming alcohol when the defendant came and stabbed him on his back and thigh.

“He stabbed me about 10cm deep in my back and a second stab on my thigh and then escaped. He wasn’t stable and I don’t know if that was because of drinking alcohol or something else. He escaped despite the accommodation supervisor trying to stop him,” the indian victim said in records.

The defendant failed to show up in court to enter a plea.

The trial has been delayed to September 16.
