Dubai: A man has been jailed for six months for cursing and beating his wife and kicking her out of his house, threatening to kill her if she returned.

In May, the Emirati man, 43, and his Iranian wife had a heated argument, before he beat her with a clothes’ hanger and injured her. He also cursed his wife before his 16-year-old stepson intervened to stop him from choking his mother. After throwing her out of the house, the Emirati relayed a message to his wife, that he would kill her if she returned home.

The Dubai Court of First Instance convicted the husband of assaulting and cursing his wife, and verbally threatening to kill her.

According to the primary judgement, the accused was also ordered to pay Dh21,000 in temporary civil compensation to the victim.

The accused pleaded not guilty and rejected all his accusations in court.

“I did not beat or curse her, I did not threaten her. She went out of the house on her own, I didn’t ask her to do so,” the husband told the court.

The wife, 31, said she had a heated argument with her husband, who beat her brutally with a hanger. “We had a fight at 3am and then he beat and cursed me. He kicked me out of the house and called me a prostitute. He asked me to go back to my parents’ house and never return. My 16-year-old son jumped pushed him away when he tried to choke me. He kicked me and my children out of the house. He also threatened to kill me,” the woman said.

The stepson testified that he saved his mother when his stepfather tried to suffocate her.

The ruling remains subject to appeal.
