His driving licence has been suspended for one year
Dubai: The Dubai Court of Misdemeanour has sentenced a Gulf national to two years in prison and a fine of Dh100,000 after convicting him of driving under the influence of narcotics and possessing 70 grams of marijuana.
The court also barred him from transferring or depositing funds on his own or through others without approval from the UAE Central Bank, in coordination with the interior ministry, until the sentence is completed. His driving licence was suspended for one year, and the confiscated drugs were ordered destroyed.
According to case records, police stopped the man in Dubai’s Motor City after noticing erratic driving. A search of his vehicle uncovered narcotic pills and herbal substances later confirmed by forensic tests to be marijuana.
During questioning, the defendant admitted using controlled substances with a prescription and acknowledged driving while under their influence. He also confessed to possessing marijuana for personal use. The court found him guilty and issued its ruling accordingly.
