Dubai: A court in Ras Al Khaimah has sentenced an expatriate to a one-year jail term on charges of showing disrespect to the UAE national flag. The punishment will, however, be suspended for three years.

According to court records, border guards who stopped the Pakistani man at an entry point noticed that he had displayed the UAE flag on his truck in an offensive manner.

The accused said in his statement that he did not know anything about the flag and that he did not know who had stuck it on his vehicle. Passing judgment, the court issued the suspended sentence.
