Dubai: A Syrian investor denied charges of forging documents and using them to secure 36 etisalat postpaid mobile SIM cards, when he appeared in court yesterday.

Prosecutors charged 27-year-old A.M. and another suspect at large with forging photocopies of two trade licences issued from the Dubai Department of Economic Development and a labour visa issued from the Department for Residency and Foreign Affairs. He was also charged with using the forged documents to secure the postpaid cards and making Dh55,000 worth of phone calls.

"No, I did not forge anything. It did not happen. I am not guilty," argued A.M. when Presiding Judge Fahmi Mounir presented the charges against him at the Dubai Court of First Instance.

He was also charged with submitting the forged documents to etisalat's Egyptian sales representative M.P. in order to process the postpaid cards.

A juvenile suspect is being prosecuted before the Dubai Misdemeanours Court for collaborating with A.M.

M.P. testified that A.M. visited his office to give him the documents for 13 cards.

Records said the sales representative suspected the documents were forged and alerted his boss.

"My boss contacted the concerned authorities to check on the validity of the documents, which turned our to be forged. We informed the police who arrested the suspect ... ," M.P. said.

The trial continues.
