Investigation to determine cause under way

Fujairah: A housemaid sustained serious burns in a gas cylinder explosion at her employer’s residence in Mreshid area of Fujairah early on Sunday.

The Asian housemaid who sustained second and third-degree burns was admitted to the intensive care unit of Fujairah Hospital, Fujairah Police said.

Her condition is critical.

The house caught fire in the incident.

The woman was preparing breakfast at around 6am when the blast tore through the kitchen after she switched on the lights.

Police are investigating the cause of the explosion, which is believed to have been caused by a gas leak.

The housemaid’s employer has been summoned for questioning.

Police urged residents to store gas cylinders in a safe place such as a cupboard with good ventilation and away from direct sunlight or flammable material, refrain from rolling the cylinder and make sure to seal the valve of the gas cylinder.
