Ras Al Khaimah: The Court of First Misdemeanours in Ras Al Khaimah sentenced an Asian housemaid to one month in jail on the charge of attempted suicide.

The verdict was announced by Judge Fathi Al Qal’a on Sunday morning.

The case dates back to last month when the Asian housemaid drank a large amount of diesel to end her life soon after a conversation on the mobile phone with her mother, who is in her home country. The phone call ended with an argument between the housemaid and her mother.

The housemaid was rushed to hospital by her Emirati employers and doctors saved her life.

Ras Al Khaimah Police interrogated the housemaid after she recovered and then referred her to the public prosecution. The prosecutor charged the housemaid with attempting to commit suicide.

She was referred to court after her testimony confirmed that she had attempted to commit suicide following a dispute with her mother.
