Dubai:  An unemployed man faces jail for swindling Dh4,400 from two individuals after claiming his connections could get them hired at Dubai Police and Abu Dhabi Police.

The Dubai Court of First Instance sentenced the 31-year-old Moroccan defendant to six month in jail.

The accused, H.K., pleaded guilty when he appeared before Presiding Judge Hamad Abdul Latif Abdul Jawad, who said according to yesterday's judgment, H.K. will be deported after serving his punishment.

Prosecutors accused the defendant of forging three labour contracts (issued from Dubai Police and Abu Dhabi Police) and using them and coning the men's Dh4,400.

"Yes I am guilty on all charges," argued H.K. when he appeared in court last week.

The accused repeatedly said ‘yes I did' five times when Presiding Judge Abdul Jawad levelled the charges against him.

Forged contracts

H.K. was accused of cheating a victim named M.A. out of Dh1,100 after claiming he had connections, who could help him get hired as a policeman at Dubai Police.

Prosecution records said the defendant cheated Dh3,300 out of another victim named R.A. claiming his friend, a lieutenant, could help him get hired at Abu Dhabi Police Officers' Club. An Emirati policeman testified a number of victims had made complaints against H.K., and accused him of offering them forged labour contracts for money.

"The victims alleged H.K. handed them labour contracts which allegedly bore the Ministry of Interior's stamps and other official stamps… we failed to arrest him in a sting operation after he managed to break away. The defendant was later arrested in Satwa. He admitted he forged the contracts and swindled money from the victims," claimed the policeman during questioning.

The primary judgment remains subject to appeal within 15 days.
