Investigations underway into cause of Al Quoz fire

Dubai: Police questioned a number of workers who were at the warehouses in Al Quoz Industrial area 3 where a fire broke out in six warehouses last Saturday afternoon.

Major General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina, Dubai Police Deputy Commandant General, revealed that the losses in the fire that gutted six furniture warehouses have not yet been estimated.

Firefighters were able to control the fire in three hours.

Major General Al Mazeina said work is on with the concerned auth-orities and the insurance companies to estimate the losses.

He also pointed out that the roads around the fire scene were not congested as was published in an Arabic publication yesterday. "Civil defence teams did not find any difficulty in reaching the fire scene, as traffic flow was fine, more so because it was a Saturday, which is a weekend for government departments and many private companies," Major General Al Mazeina said.

Location

He said the warehouses contained offices for employees and a number of workers were preparing orders when the fire broke out.

Major General Al Mazeina said the fire report came in by a police patrol which was close to the location.

The police used specialised vehicles to discourage workers who had gathered at the scene and ease the firefighters' effort.
