Sharp eyes and smart tech help foil heroin smuggling attempt at Fujairah Airport
Fujairah: Thanks to the quick thinking of customs officers and the use of advanced technology, an attempt to smuggle heroin into the UAE was stopped at Fujairah International Airport on Wednesday, June 18, 2025.
The operation was carried out by the General Directorate of Ports at the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security, in cooperation with airport authorities.
The case involved a traveler from an Asian country who arrived at the airport carrying a suitcase filled with what appeared to be regular dietary supplements. During a routine baggage inspection, customs officers noticed something suspicious and decided to take a closer look.
Inside the suitcase were 100 containers holding a total of 6,000 capsules, along with 70 bags of powdered supplements. Everything looked normal at first, but when officers tested the items using smart scanning tools, the results revealed a shocking truth — the capsules contained heroin.
The man was immediately stopped, and legal procedures were taken.
Officials from the Authority praised the alertness and professionalism of the customs team. They said the case shows how powerful smart inspection systems can be in protecting the country from dangerous drugs and keeping communities safe.
