Abu Dhabi: A man who is alleged to have stalked women in elevators after midnight and harass them with a knife to rape or threaten to rape them has been arrested by Abu Dhabi Police.

The Arab suspect, M.A., 30, was caught after the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) received four consecutive reports that a man with specific descriptions raped and attempted to rape Asian women after threatening them with a knife. The suspect would allegedly threaten the victims in the elevators and then take them to the staircase in the building where he would rape them and then escape, Colonel Rashid Mohammad Bu Rasheed, head of CID said.

M.A. is said to have taken advantage of the late hours at night to target his female victims who were aged between 26 to 30 years. Bu Rasheed noted that the suspect beat some of his victims and threatened to kill them if they fought back or reported him to the police.

The suspect was arrested after the police searched for him, traced him and finally ambushed him where they also managed to locate a knife.

Bu Rasheed thanked the investigation unit for their efforts in arresting the suspect and used M.A. as an example that those who break the law cannot escape the police.
